Unboxing | Toukiden: The Age of Demons

Ahh! Another unbox blog!

This time is Toukiden: The Age of Demons! One of the games that got my attention years ago with the Japanese release. So when it was release in Japan, I didn’t hesitate to buy it! But when it was release in the west (Europe), I actually waited because of too many release around the same time! (-_\) So when I saw shopto.net was having it on sale, I decide to buy it this time!

First time I ever tried this game was the Japanese Demo! And it got my first attention because it was make by Omega Force! I’m a big fans of their games, specially the Warriors series. So when they make something that is different than their usual games, it got my attention right away. I love the idea of the game and the gameplay remind be heavily to Monster Hunter & God Eater! Which are games I also really enjoy playing.

If you been follow me for awhile, you know I’m a sucker for Physical copy of games! Because I love to collect the games I like & love + it looks super nice in shelf! ԅ(≖‿≖ԅ)

I was very surprise that the the western release have a similar box art to the Japanese version. Normally, I prefer the JP box art over the western release. But Tecmo Koei never have any bad looking box art in most of their games to begin with! So I’m very satisfied with the box.

And one more surprise! This is one of the “rare” PSV games that have a physical manual! It show the different skills for each weapons you can have in the game and useful information for skills and etc. Things you might need while you actually playing the game! With this, you don’t have to keep opening the digital manual while fighting a boss, nice isn’t it?

Toukiden: The Age of Demons (討鬼伝 Tōkiden), is a 2013 video game developed by Omega Force for the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita. It was released on June 27, 2013 in Japan. Tecmo Koei showcased the PlayStation Vita version of the game at E3 2013, and released the game within North America on February 11, 2014 exclusively on PlayStation Vita.

The game is set in a fantasy world with medieval Japanese themes. Warriors known as mononofu (モノノフ) specialise in fighting oni form teams and hunt them. Eight years prior to the commencement of the story, a great demon emerged from the underworld and brought an era of calamity to the land of Nakatsu Kuni, which was traditionally protected by the mononofu since ancient times. The protagonist and main characters reside at Utakata Village, one of the final lines of defense against the demons.

Toukiden is a third-person monster hunting game which employs groups of players or NPCs fighting together against various monsters during quests. Each player can customize their choice of weapons, armor and skills. Special abilities can be obtained through the usage of souls, or mitama, which can be collected during the progress of the game. These mitama can level up by gaining experience from battles, or by paying a certain sum of haku. Different mitama have abilities with various characteristics, and can be categorised into various groups such as offensive, defensive, or recovery mitama. Upon slaying a monster, the players or NPCs can “purify” the monster, which collects items useful in upgrading weapons and armor. Monsters fall into the categories of small and large oni, with large oni being the boss-type enemies within the game.

Players can engage in missions co-operatively via an ad-hoc WiFi connection, or over the internet. Additional missions are available in the form of downloadable content.
